Florida has lost 22% of forests since 1953 (a loss of 1.6 million ha).
I do not see much mention of this loss in biodiversity in newspapers or
magazines like "Mother Jones." But there are complaints about the fact
that 31% of the wooded land was planted with pine seedlings. Some of these
plantations were established on old orange groves (killed by freezes).
