Honors Interdisciplinary Symposia

Technology & Culture
HONR 1007/1017

Technology & Culture explores in rich and compelling ways what difference it makes to human societies that we, collectively, are producers and users of science and technology. This course should be especially popular with engineering, architecture, building science, business, and pre-professional students (including premeds), as the course will help to illuminate issues of professional responsibility and ethics.

The course consists of 50-minute plenary lectures two days a week, 75-minute discussion sections two days a week, and a 50-minute colloquium one day a week.

Summary of Student Credit:

  • Fall: 3 hours of Humanities Core and 3 hours of Social Science Core
  • Spring: 3 hours of Humanities Core and 3 hours of Social Science Core

Faculty Comments:

"With six credit hours being given for this course per semester, there is enough time to cover the material in great depth rather than rushing through it."

"This brand new course will give faculty and students alike a chance to explore what it means to live in our technological world."

"This is a great choice for Freshman Honors students."
